Eye Health and Exams

It is said “The eyes are the windows to the soul.”  To that end, your eyes provide early detection for many different diseases which can affect more than just your vision.  During your annual, regularly scheduled eye examination, we routinely perform tests to evaluate the health of your eyes, as well as look for signs and symptoms of many different diseases to determine the best options to correct your visual needs.

Illnesses detected early on through signs in your eyes include diabetes, high blood pressure and even heart disease. At Eyes In The ‘Burg, we feel it’s important to review your family history then monitor and watch for signs of possibly inherited diseases or illnesses as another precaution.

Glaucoma and age related macular degeneration are two of the leading causes of vision loss today that are tested for during the course of your annual examination as a preventive measure in keeping your eyes healthy.

Cataracts are a clouding of the lens in the eye.  The age at which cataracts develop varies greatly.  While there is no way slow the progression of cataracts, your eye glass prescription can be tailored to maximize your vision while your cataracts are being monitored.
